FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Salt Lake City, Utah (Dec. 19, 2013) Major League Baseball Centerfielder Dexter Fowler, one of the Colorado Rockies’ most popular and promising young players who was traded to the Houston Astros earlier this month, has pledged to raise money for civil legal aid through AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (AJFA) from today through Christmas via Twitter.
“I have deep ties to Utah and care a lot about this state. My wife, Aliya, has family in Sandy and grew up here, and my little girl will be born here in a few months. We recently bought a home overlooking this beautiful valley. It’s time we gave back to this state. Equal access to law is as American as baseball. So let’s knock one out of the park for justice.”
Fowler will donate $1 to AJFA for every new follower he gains on Twitter as he tweets about AND JUSTICE FOR ALL and the need to expand civil legal aid across Utah. Fowler’s twitter handle is @DexFowler.
“We’re so glad to have Dexter’s support,” AND JUSTICE FOR ALL Development Director Kseniya Kniazeva said. “If it weren’t for our generous partners like Dexter, we would not be able to raise awareness for Utahns who lack an advocate, and if it weren’t for our charitable legal community, we couldn’t have helped so many disadvantaged Utahns secure the basic needs that many of us take for granted – physical safety, family stability, habitable shelter, access to healthcare and other crucial services.”
“Yet we can only represent one out of every three people who seek us out,” Kniazeva added. “Dexter’s effort to raise awareness that there is a Justice Gap in Utah is the first step for us to get the necessary resources to bridge that gap.”
AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (AJFA) is the resource-sharing umbrella organization for Utah’s primary civil legal aid agencies: Disability Law Center, Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake, and Utah Legal Services. It is the first project of its kind in the country to co-locate the major civil legal service sproviders in an effort to simplify access for clients and create efficiencies for service providers. By uniting together, the legal organizations housed within AND JUSTICE FOR ALL’s Community Legal Center save half a million dollars annually.
This year marks the nonprofit’s 15th anniversary. Over the last 15 years, AJFA has helped 416,370 people regain stability in domestic issues, obtain protective orders in cases of domestic violence, access disability income and health care, and satisfy their most basic needs through legal representation, advice and referrals. and Justice for all received a four out of four (4-star) rating by Charity Navigator for sound fiscal management and transparency, which only one-fourth of US charities received.
Secure, tax-deductible donations to AND JUSTICE FOR ALL can be made by going here.
