Tracee is a mother of five who was trying to leave her abusive husband, Robert.
Throughout their twenty-year marriage, Robert had become increasingly jealous, possessive and violent. One night, in a rage, he violently beat and sexually assaulted Tracee. When she tried to leave, he cut the phone lines and took her car battery to prevent her from seeking help. Tracee was able to flee to the home of a neighbor, who called the police.
Tracee was referred to Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake by police. Legal Aid Society helped Tracee obtain a protective order directing Robert to stay away from her and the children and to vacate the family home. Legal Aid also assisted Tracee in getting an emergency child support order and helped her start divorce proceedings.
Tracee and her children were able to stay together and have now started a new life, free of fear.
