Marvin is a man with disabilities who wanted to attend LDS temple services as part of his religious beliefs. The staff of the Utah State Developmental Center, where Marvin lives, said they were unable to grant his request despite the fact that his treatment team approved the outings and the local congregation had offered to help.
Marvin came to the Disability Law Center for help. The Disability Law Center conducted an investigation and found that the Developmental Center’s refusal was not consistent since they frequently granted other requests for Marvin to attend minimally supervised off-campus activities including job interviews. As a result of the Disability Law Center’s intervention, the Developmental Center agreed to change their policy.
Marvin is happy that he is now able to attend religious services at the LDS temple. As a result of the Disability Law Center’s advocacy, present and future residents of the Utah State Developmental Center will be able to practice their religious beliefs more freely.
Your gift can help others with disabilities, like Marvin, have a voice in their lives and care.
